Rapid Cooling of Long, Centrifugally Cast Tubes for the Oil & Gas Sector
This project completed by our team at Complete Heat Treating consisted of rapid cooling of long, centrifugally cast tubes for the oil and gas industry. The 20′ long tubes are 14″ in diameter and weigh 5,500 lbs. each. They are cast from CA6NM steel which is a corrosion resistance iron-chromium-nickel-molybdenum alloy. After heating the tubes to a temperature of 1850°F with a tolerance of ±15°F, the castings were rapidly cooled via a forced air quench and then tempered. Forced air quench is an excellent method for preserving the desirable mechanical properties developed during heat treat while releasing many of the residual stresses than can lead to brittleness.
Our ability to handle and uniformly treat very large objects is unique and has led to a strong customer base in the heavy equipment, oil and gas, power generation, and other industries. With over 70 years of experience in providing premium quality heat treating services to customers throughout the US, we can solve a wide variety of heat treating challenges. We have four semi-trucks and multiple lowboy, flat bed, and van trailers to pick-up and deliver customer parts within a 100 mile radius.
